Happy Mother’s Day

I have realized that I love sending cards when it’s on my own terms and I get so much enjoyment out of imaging the surprise on your face when you find the card in your mailbox. But I am not very good at writing cards when I am supposed to… No cards on mother’s day, but love all year round. How is that?

Mama, drück Dich.
MOM, I love that our visits will overlap.
and love to all the other moms.

Last day of classes

Time flies!

Today was our last day of classes in Dublin. We still have one essay to write, but other than that we’re done. YES!

Since we’re obliged to stay in Dublin until the end of June to receive our scholarships, the university has arranged practicum placements for us to make this time more interesting. I’ll be going to the Centre for Social and Educational Research located within the School of Social Sciences and Law at DIT (Dublin Institute of Technology). I’m looking forward to trying something new. I haven’t been a practicum student in years!

Spinach Pancakes

Yesterday we visited Anna in a neighborhood called Clontarf (Oli had the letters mixed up and called it Clonfart, lol). We went for a nice walk along the seawall and then over to Anna’s house. She made spinach pancakes with a mouth-watering veggie/cheese filling. And as if that wasn’t enough, for desert she surprised us with lemon poppyseed muffins. It was like heaven.

In the evening we went to a story telling event downtown, Milk and Cookies. It’s basically a room filled with lovely people with an unlimited supply of home-made cookies. And then people tell stories. It’s fantastic.

A trip to Bray

Since you’re not supposed to do homework on a Sunday, we went to check out the Bray Jazz Festival instead. We went on a cliff walk, listened to some music, and got an upgraded tea and cake special at the pink cafe (the waitress was in a good mood and gave us the nicer cake).

Back at home we plundered the fridge and made yet another delicious dinner. I must say that since we started cooking together and sharing our food, our life here has been pretty nice. And we don’t have to go shopping as often, because someone else might still have some of what you need desperately… I have the best roomies ever.

After dinner Dr. Jameson paid a house visit and we all had a good night sleep UNTIL we got woken up at 5:30 when we ran out of electricity.Yes, we ran out of electricity…

only one more assignment to write

This week is dedicated to working on my last assignment here in Dublin. It’s a paper on the competing images and discourses of the young child. Let’s see what I can come up with.

I am still working on keeping my Irish bank account open. The lady is blaming her superiors for giving me such a hard time and is pretending to be working her magic for me. My last hope is a bank statement from my bank at home mailed to my address in Ireland.

My shoulder is feeling better and worse at the same time. The massages are really helping and I can’t wait to go again on Tuesday 🙂

Happy First of May

Olivera made a beautiful dinner for us to celebrate the first of May. She tells me that back at home in Serbia the first of May is a big celebration and this meal is usually prepared outside (it’s 30 degrees there today).

It’s pouring in Dublin and we can’t imagine leaving the house today, but we enjoyed the food & good company 🙂

Massages

I’ve decided to get massages for my shoulder injury, again. Best decision I’ve made all week. Let’s see how much Marius can fix until I leave at the end of June. I’m so happy that someone is taking care of this shoulder.
